AC drives for global market come with 10-year guarantees

Omron has announced a family of AC drives aimed at the global market that, it claims, set a new standard in motor control and drive technology. The M1 drives can power a variety of motor types including induction motors, permanent magnet synchronous motors (including direct-drive types with up to 128 poles), as well as special machines such as drum motors. They can deliver up to 200% torque at 0Hz.

The drives are available in ratings from 0.1-22kW, in 200V single-phase and 200V or 400V three-phase versions. They can operate in open- or closed-loop vector modes, and can provide speed, torque or precision position control, as well as master-follower functions. The maximum output frequency is 590Hz.

The VSDs support Modbus and EtherCat communications and can operate in standard or ring topologies. Encoder and pulse counter inputs are built in, with high-speed position capture via digital inputs for accurate motion control.

Motor parameters can be adjusted easily using the autotuning function in Omron’s Sysmac Studio environment, which provides an intuitive tool for configuring, monitoring and managing systems. There are built-in energy-saving functions.

The drives offer Safe Stop 0 functions with Safe Torque Off (STO) capabilities that comply with Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3) and Performance Level e (PLe). They support both wired and Fail-Safe over EtherCat (FSoE).

Omron is guaranteeing 10 years of maintenance-free operation, even in demanding industrial settings. The dust- and moisture-resistant drives incorporate coated PCBs to enhance durability and ensure reliable operation in challenging industrial environments. Certifications include CE, UKCA, cULus, KC, RCM and RoHS, for compliance with international safety and environmental regulations.
