Small servodrive handles dynamic applications

At the recent SPS show, Festo unveiled a compact servodrive designed to deliver dynamic motion from small servomotors and stepper motors with continuous power ratings up to 300W. The CMMT-ST drive is particularly suitable for use with Ethernet-based bus systems and can be integrated with controllers from manufacturers such as Siemens, Rockwell and Beckhoff.

The drive can be used for point-to-point and interpolating motion in demanding assembly, handling and packaging applications. It works best in combination with Festo’s EMMS-ST stepper motor.

The new drive is the smaller brother of the 2.5kW CMMT-AS drive that Festo released at the previous SPS. It needs less cooling, takes up half the space and is much cheaper, but it offers the same connection and communication facilities, functional modules and safety functions. The CMMT-AS and CMMT-ST drives can be used together to handle combinations of large and small axes.

The CMMT-ST servodrive can be used for dynamic applications using servo or stepper motors up to 300W.

Commissioning the CMMT-ST is said to take a few minutes using Festo’s free Automation Suite software which provides parameterisation, programming and maintenance functions. It allows entire drive packages, from mechanical systems to controllers, to be commissioned in a few intuitive steps.
