Screw jack actuators `carry three times the load`

SKF claims that its new roller screw jack actuators can lift loads three times heavier than traditional friction-based thread screw systems with the same power input. The actuators will also transfer loads faster without overheating, it adds. They will lift up to 90t with an efficiency as high as 70%, SKF says.

Because roller screws contain no small parts, they have a higher shock resistance, and static and dynamic load capacities than ballscrews, according to SKF. The actuators are based on a self-contained, worm-gear-driven rotating nut assembly. As the nut is rotated, a spherical roller thrust bearing supports the roller screw nut assembly, distributing the load evenly.

The many contact points of the roller screw are said to result in a high rigidity and a long operational life.
