Is this the world`s smallest servo actuator?

Harmonic Drive believes it has created the world`s smallest servo actuator - a device that combines an AC motor, gearbox and encoder in a package weighing 400g and occupying a volume of just 50 cubic mm. The actuator is part of a new hollow-shaft range that includes a model with a 30:1 ratio - thought to be the first of its kind.

The FHA-C mini actuators have been developed for applications where accurate motion control and high torque capacity are needed, or where operating space or weight are restricted. Examples include pick-and-place systems and precision machine controls.

The backlash-free actuators are said to deliver smooth torque curves with output speeds from 60-200 rpm. A specially developed cross-roller output bearing resists axial and radial loads, and high tilting moments. The TTL-encoder mounted on the motor shaft provides precise feedback data to within 1.6 arc-seconds.

The actuators, available in three gear sizes (8, 11 and 14), can be driven by a standard servo controller or by Harmonic Drives` own digital controller.
