Wireless LAN is `first to support IEEE 802.11n`

21 December, 2009

Belden claims that it is the first company to offer an industrial wireless LAN system that supports the recently adopted IEEE 802.11n transmission standard, which allows data to be transmitted at rates of up to 300Mbit/s – comparable to the speed of wired Fast Ethernet networks.

Belden’s Hirschmann BAT300 WLAN access point come in IP40 or IP65/67 versions. There are two types of WLAN antennae (one for mounting on rails, the other for use in the field). An integrated IP router can be used to establish up to eight sub-networks assigned to the access point ports or interfaces.

Together, the components can form stable, high-speed networks or point-to-point connections, even in harsh environments. Mimo (multiple input multiple output) technology is used to ensure stable wireless connections, even when reflections cause interference.
