Speed relay meets Machinery Directive demand

13 December, 2009

Pilz has developed a speed-monitoring relay that meets the requirement of the new Machinery Directive to monitor the operating status of a drive when it is brought to a stop. The PNOZ s30 relay monitors safe standstill, speed and direction of rotation, and can help to cut setup times and to provide rapid access to a machine once it has stopped.

The relay can be used with most motor feedback systems and proximity switches. A built-in display shows limit values, parameters and the current speed. If a threshold is reached, the relay can send an advance warning to a motor control system, avoiding unnecessary shutdowns.

The absolute position of an axis can be monitored safely, thus protecting against unwanted axis movements during setup. Parameters can be stored on memory cards that can be transferred to other relays.
