`World’s shortest` inductive sensors weigh less than 1g

06 November, 2007

Balluff claims to be offering the world’s shortest inductive sensors – 6mm-long devices with a sensing distance of 1.5mm. The SupertShorty sensors are small enough for almost any location, even is space-critical applications such as linear slides, valves and actuators.

The rugged, stainless-steel sensors, available in 6.5mm-diameter and M8 versions, incorporate all of their electronics, avoiding the need for external amplifiers. The tiny devices weigh just 0.7 grammes (excluding the cable) and are thus suitable for dynamic applications, such as pick-and-place systems.

Even if the sensors protrude in an application, they are less likely than usual to cause an obstruction or to suffer from accidental damage.
