Ede (above) has been succeeded at WEG by Patrick O’Neill, one of the five people who helped to found the Brazilian motor-maker’s UK operation in 1997. His most recent position has been as managing director of WEG’s Scandinavian operation, in Sweden.

Ede has more than 23 years of experience on both the technical and sales sides of the engineering industry. He has spent the past seven years building WEG’s UK operation.

Commenting on his hew role at IMO, Ede says: "As team leader, my aim is to promote and nurture the accelerated growth of what is already a highly successful organisation.

O’Neill (above) originally worked as WEG’s UK operations manager until he was seconded, four years ago, to its Brazilian headquarters to take up the role of European export manager. Last year, he was appointed MD of WEG Scandinavia.

"This is a particularly exciting time to be taking over at WEG UK," O’Neill says. "With a 15% growth in our business in the last year alone, WEG is out-performing its competitors and the market generally by a considerable margin.

"My task is twofold: to further this growth through the eventual introduction of generators, transformers and systems to the UK; and to prepare a platform in the UK for WEG’s European consolidation – an initiative that will enable WEG to leverage its combined resources in Europe to deliver the largest sustainable systems, integrating everything from energy generation and power conditioning, to distribution, control and monitoring."
