Parker Hannifin has bought the US integrated motion specialist Bayside Controls for an undisclosed sum. Bayside, based in Port Washington, New York state, has annual revenues of around $25m and employs 139 people, mainly in the US, Germany and Singapore.

Bayside specialises in automation sub-systems that integrate electrical and mechanical equipment, including servo amplifiers and controls, gears and geared drives, linear positioning systems, and software. The company`s chief executive Avi Telyas has developed the company from a gears business that he bought in 1986.

Bayside will become part of Parker Automation Group`s Electromechanical Automation division. Roger Sherrard (above), recently appointed president of the Automation Group, says that the acquisition "expands our product breadth in electromechanical automation, and gives us a leading market position.

"We are particularly pleased to add Bayside`s sophisticated gearhead and systems engineering expertise to our strong rotary and linear motion technology, to create a complete electromechanical motion solution from one company," Sherrard continues.

Bayside`s Telyas says that adding his company`s products to the Parker portfolio "will give customers complete system solutions and create greater penetration into existing and new markets".

• Roger Sherrard has succeeded Bob Bond, who has replaced the recently retired Tom Mackie as president of Parker`s Fluid Connectors Group. Sherrard, who has been with Parker since 1989 was, most recently, president of its Instrumentation Group. He says the Automation Group`s focus will be on "positioning Parker as the leader in pneumatic and electromechanical automation technologies and systems".
