Managed SPE switches are the first of their type
Published:  12 June, 2023

Phoenix Contact has released its first managed Ethernet switches that can connect sensors and terminal devices to SPE (Single Pair Ethernet) interfaces. The FL Switch 2303-8SP1 switches support SPE on eight ports with the 10 Base-T1L standard, which supports transmission distances of up to 1km.

The connected devices can optionally be supplied by the switch via a two-wire cable supporting the PoDL (Power over Data Line) standard and the 24V DC Power Class 11. Sensors used in production, infrastructure and building automation, can thus be integrated directly into Ethernet networks in an installation-friendly manner, without needing gateways.

There are three “classic” Ethernet ports operating at 100/1000 Mbps for connecting higher-level networks in star, ring, and line topologies.

Managed switches are particularly suitable for automation protocols such as Profinet and support network redundancy as well as security functions.
