Mitsubishi’s Iconics software subsidiary buys UK operation
Published:  02 June, 2023

Mitsubishi Electric has announced that its Iconics Inc subsidiary has agreed to wholly acquire Iconics UK, which sells Scada (supervisory control and data acquisition) software and develops related cloud applications. The terms of the transaction have not been revealed.

Mitsubishi bought Iconics Inc in 2019 to strengthen its global software-development capabilities. Iconics UK, which distributes Iconics products in the UK, has its own cloud application development and Software as a Service (SaaS) business, which offers subscription-based licensing and delivery of centrally stored software.

Mitsubishi Electric and Iconics plan to leverage Iconics UK's technology and know-how to establish a circular digital-engineering business model for factory automation systems that optimise factory equipment and systems. Iconics UK's user-experience, cloud-related technical assets and engineers will support the development of integrated systems that collect on-site production data and then reproduce, analyse and apply the data in digital space. Potential benefits include improved productivity and quality as well as reduced TCO (total cost of ownership).

Iconics UK, based in Dudley in the West Midlands, employs 56 people.

Iconics’ portfolio includes its Genesis64 HMI Scada automation software
