16-core ultra-compact IPCs set new benchmarks
Published:  21 December, 2022

At the recent SPS show, Beckhoff unveiled the latest member of its family of ultra-compact industrial PCs. The C6040 IPC is based on 12th-generation Intel Core processors with up to 16 cores, resulting in “unprecedented power density” and opening up a new world of application possibilities, according to the company.

The Core i7 and i9 processors used in the C6040 are the first with a hybrid architecture that adds four “efficiency cores” to the previous “performance cores”, allowing applications to be implemented on 12 or 16 cores. Many additional threads can be executed in real time or in user mode on the efficiency cores. Each core can be configured individually via the clock frequency.

The C6040, which measures 132 x 202 x 76mm, is particularly suitable for sophisticated axis controls, complex HMI applications, and applications with extremely short cycle times, as well as machine learning and machine vision applications.
