Camera closes gap between industrial vision and Webcams
Published:  28 June, 2022

The German machine vision specialist IDS (Imaging Development Systems) has announced a camera that, it claims, closes the gap between consumer Webcams and industrial vision systems.

The 13 Megapixel uEye XC camera offers the operating simplicity of a Webcam but has been designed for industrial applications with a rugged, lightweight magnesium housing. It uses components with a long availability. The autofocus camera can be used in a variety of ways in both industrial and non-industrial settings. A quick-change macro attachment lens allows users to shorten the minimum object distance, and makes the camera suitable for close-up uses, such as diagnostics.

The sensor delivers 20 frames/second at full resolution and ensures high image quality even in changing light conditions thanks to its use of BSI (back side illumination) technology. It offers a 24x digital zoom, automatic white balance and colour correction.

The integrated autofocus module means that the Vision standard-compliant USB3 camera can handle changing object distances. It measures 32 x 61 x 19mm and has a screwable USB Micro B connection, making it easy to integrate into image-processing systems.

The camera combines the simplicity of a Webcam with the ruggedness of a machine vision sensor

A software development kit allows users to configure the camera for particular applications.
