Schneider ‘in talks to sell’ Telemecanique arm for around $1bn
Published:  19 May, 2022

Schneider Electric is talking to several potential buyers of its Telemecanique automation and control activities, according to the Bloomberg news service. It says that the business, which could be sold for around $1bn, has attracted interested from several private equity firms as well as the connectors and sensors manufacturer, Amphenol.

According to the report, no final decisions have been made yet on the sale of the business which could form part of Schneider’s plan to sell off operations that it regards as being non-core, allowing it to invest more into areas that will help its customers to move towards digitalisation.

The Telemecanique brand dates back to 1924, when it sold the first bar contactor. Schneider acquired the company in 1988 and used the brand for products such as PLCs, variable-speed drives, contactors, busbar trunking, sensors, switches, signalling devices and software.

In 2009, Schneider Electric migrated the Telemecanique products and services to its own brand as part of its automation and controls portfolio.

Schneider has used the Telemecanique brand for a variety of automation and control products including sensors
