The acquisition is part of WEG’s strategy of expanding its WEG Digital Solutions and IoT WEGnology IoT platforms, which it launched recently to meet Industry 4.0 demands. This is the third acquisition that WEG has made since announcing a new digital business structure in June 2019 aimed at accelerating the development of more efficient technologies that cater for the continued growth of Industry 4.0.
Mvisia, founded in 2012 at the the University of São Paulo (USP), has its own vision hardware and software, with a particular expertise in embedded processing applications and machine-learning algorithms for videos and images. These can be integrated with MESs (manufacturing execution systems), and through cloud processing via mobile devices or integration with the open WEGnology platform.
According to WEG’s digital business director, Carlos José Bastos Grillo, Mvisia has mature, scalable technologies for monitoring, sensing and managing industrial processes through computer vision and AI.
“With this acquisition,” he explains, “we will include in our digital ecosystem a technology for capturing, filtering, processing and storing data through images, capable of sending accurate and real-time information to the cloud, enabling control of aspects such as productivity, security, number of defects and dimensions, generating automatic insights into quantitative and qualitative attributes of products, as well as training the neural networks of the algorithms with the behaviour of specific processes through the use of static or moving images”.
