Tiny servodrives pack four 5kW axes in the size of a hand
Published:  05 February, 2020

At the recent SPS show in Germany, the Israeli manufacturer Elmo Motion Control launched a series of servodrives which, it claims, offer “the industry’s most advanced servo functionality”, and are the world’s smallest servos to offer functional safety and support FSoE (Functional Safety over EtherCat). It adds that the drives offer “unmatched” performance with extreme power densities and near-zero latency.

One member of the family, called Quartet, squeezes four 5kW servodrives into an assembly that can be held in one hand.

The other members – the Platinum Twitter (80A/80V and 30A/200V), Whistle (25A/100V and 9A/200V) and Bell (25A/100V 9A/200V) – are an evolution of Elmo’s earlier Gold family of servodrives, designed to meet the need for smarter, smaller, faster servos, with more functions and greater ease-of-use.

The Platinum drives support SIL 3, making them some of the world’s smallest to offer functional safety. Together with support for FSoE, Elmo says the drives will help machine and robot manufacturers create better machines.
