Communicative inverter supports single-cable links
Published:  01 February, 2019

SEW-Eurodrive has a new inverter which, it says, is notable for the flexibility of its communications interfaces, controllable motor types and scalable functions. The Movidrive technology application inverter is part of SEW’s Movi-C modular automation system and supports Movilink DDI single-cable digital connections to motors in this family.

The inverter can control speed, torque and positioning. It is fitted with an EtherCat/SBus interface with optional support for Profinet, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP. Various control modes are available to control asynchronous and synchronous motors, with and without encoders.

The single-cable system can transmit motor, brake, encoder and diagnostic data to the inverter, allowing automated start-ups, cutting installation costs and saving time. Options include communications cards, I/O extensions, operator panels, and a multi-encoder card for an additional distance encoder.

The STO safety function is built in, and cards are available for other functions including SS1, SBC, SLS and SLI, without needing external modules.
