Entry-level motor management system supports Profinet
Published:  26 October, 2018

Siemens has announced an entry-level, Profinet-enabled motor management device which monitors, protects and controls constant-speed motors and incorporates predictive maintenance functions. The compact Simocode pro V PN GP system is said to provide easy, economical motor management, and is suitable for direct-on-line, reversing and star-delta (wye-delta) starters, as well as for controlling soft-starters.

The device is designed to spot potential motor problems before they occur, enabling plant stoppages to be avoided, and efficiency to be increased. It also provides detailed operating, service and diagnostic data from the entire process.

In addition to the main module, there is a current measuring module. The system can be extended by adding an optional operator control block, and a multifunction module – which provides additional inputs/outputs, as well as temperature and earth fault detection.

Siemens' entry-level motor management system can be integrated into Profinet networks

The motor management system is configured using Siemens’ TIA Portal engineering environment. The built-in Profinet connection simplifies communications, and the device is said to be easy to integrate into process control systems
