According to Bosch and Harting, previous approaches to digital condition monitoring have be costly to select, install and integrate into existing infrastructures, and have often needed the support of IT specialists. They add that previous IoT starter kits have been suitable for prototyping, but not for long-term use in industrial environments.
The Mica CISS industrial IoT kit combines Bosch’s CISS (Connected Industrial Sensor Solution) multi-sensor technology with Harting’s Mica edge computing system.
The IP54 CISS sensor is attached to any surface where it can detect up to eight parameters, including temperature, humidity, vibration, change of position, pressure, light, magnetic field and acoustics. The equally robust Mica mini-computer can also be installed next to the machine, without needing a control cabinet.
The Bosch-Harting kit makes it easier to implement condition monitoring systems
The two components connect to each other and to a local network using standard connectors. Immediately after start-up, the sensor data is provided in the MQTT format and can be displayed in a Web browser. The data can be analysed and stored on any IT or IoT platform. A connector to Microsoft’s Azure cloud is pre-installed. Local data storage is also possible and the Mica can run database software for this purpose.
