The soft-starters have built-in functions for pumping, ventilation and compressor applications, as well as special functions including: automatic parameterisation depending on the motor start-up characteristics; stopping pumps to avoid pressure peaks in piping systems; starting time monitoring; and condition monitoring with warning and alarm limits.
The hybrid switching technology ensures efficient switching with low wear rates. It saves energy and extends the service lives of the devices, as well as protecting drivetrain mechanisms.
Soft starting also helps to avoid current peaks in power supply systems. The devices are designed to be electrically rugged to fluctuations in line voltages.
The soft starters can be integrated into automation systems. Options include operator panels, with or without displays, and communications via Profinet/Profibus and Modbus.
A Simulation Tool for Soft Starters (STS) is available to simplify product selection. The soft-starters can be configured and commissioned in Siemens’ TIA Portal environment, using its Soft Starter ES engineering software. They can also provide data can for CAx tools such as Eplan.
