High-efficiency contactors ‘use up to 80% less energy’
Published:  19 June, 2017

Schneider Electric has announced a range of energy-efficient contactors with “best-in-class” electronic coils that, it says, use up to 80% less energy and generate up to 50% less heat inside cabinets than electromechanical contactors. The TeSys D Green contactors’ standard dimensions and terminal assignments allow them to be used as direct replacements for other standard contactors, regardless of manufacturer. They can also be combined with Schneider’s new TeSys LR9D electronic overload relays to help lower energy consumption and heat generation in cabinets.

Just four sizes cover control voltages from 24–500V, AC or DC, and can be used to control motors up to 37kW. To simplify design and reduce wiring and material costs, extension contactors rated up to 80A allow direct PLC control from standard 24V DC, 500mA static outputs, without needing interface relays. The contactors are compatible with current TeSys accessories, and incorporate EverLink power connectors that ensure creep-free connections and reduce heat losses.

The compact, robust contactors are designed to help keep processes running, with Semi F47-compliant performance due to their use of wide-band coils and a high immunity to voltage disturbances on the grid. They also offer: an electrically noise-free design; reduced contact bounce from mechanical shock and vibration; and reliable, repetitive actuation, regardless of any voltage fluctuations.

David Barrett-Hague, Schneider’s UK product marketing manager, says that the new contactors are easy for OEMs to select, and include many cost-saving installation features. “And plant managers will appreciate their exceptional reliability and eco-friendly design,” he adds.
