Multi-axis servodrives are ‘the smallest on the market’

At the recent SPS IPC Drives show in Germany, Parker Hannifin launched a new generation of standalone and multi-axis servodrives including “the smallest multi-axis servodrives on the market”. The PSD drives, designed for the global market, will be the lead product in a portfolio that also includes a new PAC (programmable automation controller) offering EtherCat real-time communications.

The new servo family, with outputs from 2–30A, currently comprises: the PSD-S standalone version that can be connected directly to the mains; and the PSD-M, a multi-axis version where each power module can supply up to three servomotors.

The base configuration of the multi-axis version consists of several PSD-M modules connected to a common DC supply via busbars. Energy can be exchanged between the drives via the DC bus. The modules come in one-, two- or three-axis versions combined in a single housing. The PSD-M is suitable for centralised systems, such as those found in packaging machines, which often need many drives.

A single-cable Hiperface DSL feedback system cuts cabling and installation costs. The encoder connection between drive and motor is integrated into the power cable, avoiding the need for a separate feedback cable.

The drives have on-board EtherCat connections and offer four digital inputs and two digital outputs per axis. Connections are made quickly using a direct plug-in technology. The drives include a slot for SD memory cards.
