New-generation LV motors come in IE2 and IE3 versions
Published:  08 May, 2014

At the recent Hannover Fair, ABB launched a new generation of general-performance cast-iron LV motors in IE2 and IE3 efficiency versions. The company says it has enhanced the motors’ electrical and mechanical designs, and optimised their use of materials.

The robust motors, which are smaller than the previous generation, are suitable for OEMs to build into pumps and fans, as well as for applications such as gearboxes, conveyors and general machinery. A wide range of off-the-shelf variants offers flexibility.

The IE2 versions will be available in IEC frame sizes 71–355, while the IE3 versions span frame sizes 132–355. They will be introduced gradually during 2014, with products up to frame size 250 being released first.

The IE3 motors comply with the requirements of EU MEPS (Minimum Energy Performance Standard) that comes into force on 1 January, 2015. They therefore represent a future-proof choice for motor users and OEMs.
