Registration service provides LV AC drives with a ‘passport’
Published:  06 May, 2014

ABB has launched a free service for users and servicers of its low-voltage AC variable-speed drives. It allows them to register their drives online or via a smartphone app. In return, ABB will offer recommendations about maintenance and upgrade services that will help to extend the lifetime of the equipment.

As an incentive to encourage take-up of the drive registration service, ABB is offering six-month extended warranty comprising drive repair or replacement, including labour, for certain types of drive. The incentive follows the terms and conditions in the ABB Drive Care agreement.

To register a drive, users download the Drive Services app from either iTunes or Google Play, or register online. They then enter the drive’s serial number and location, together with the user’s name, contact details, application and industry. Registration provides access to product manuals and customer support contacts. The app also tracks when the next preventive maintenance service is due.

Users of ABB drives can register their products using a smartphone app or online

“Registration gives an opportunity to create a dedicated record that shows a story of the drive’s performance throughout its lifetime,” explains Teemu Tanila, ABB drives product manager for mobile tools. “It provides each drive with a passport that describes its application, parameter settings, maintenance records and upgrades. All of these benefits lead to a highly reliable drive that is performing at optimum throughout its lifecycle, thereby ensuring the best in productivity. This leads to tighter cost control.”
