Littlefuse buys US pumps and motors protection specialist
Published:  07 January, 2014

The circuit protection manufacturer Littlefuse has bought another US company, SymCom, which provides overload relays and pump controllers, mainly for the industrial market. SymCom, based in South Dakota, has sales worth around $23m and employs about 170 people. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

“The acquisition of SymCom is an important step forward in our strategy to diversify and grow the Littelfuse protection relay platform,” says Dan Stanek, Littlefuse’s vice-president and general manager for Protection Relays and Custom Electrical Products. “Adding SymCom to our existing mining-focused relay business strengthens our position in the broader industrial market.”

SymCom, founded in 1974, sells current and voltage monitors, motor and pump controls, and custom electronic controls. Its products offer protection, communications and control for most types and sizes of motors and pumps. Its brands include MotorSaver, PumpSaver and SSAC. SymCom also manufactures load sensors, alternating relays, intrinsically-safe relays, software, and custom controller boards.

“This is an exciting new phase for SymCom,” says SymCom’s founder, George Dunham. “I believe there is a great opportunity to leverage Littelfuse resources and channel partners to bring SymCom products into new markets and to better serve our existing customers.”
