Integrated PM motors deliver high power densities
Published:  03 January, 2014

The German manufacturer Baumüller has integrated a range of permanent magnet synchronous motors, previously used as part of its powerMela system for mobile drives, with its b maXX 5000 controllers to produce efficient 80kW and 140kW drives with high power densities, suitable for use in restricted spaces.

The IP69K-protected motors produce both reluctance momentum and electromagnetic torque. Their conductors are cooled directly, with a choice of air, water or cold-plate cooling, and high temperature flows in the cooling medium. The high efficiency of the motor allows compact heat exchanger designs.

The Baumüller motors, in seven sizes with ratings up to 315kW, have a constant output up to twice the basic speed and a high torque in the basic speed range. There is a choice of three different safety modules for use in the inverter section.
