“Cemp will fit in well with our existing European footprint and aid in our efforts to grow profitably in Europe,” says Regal Beloit’s chairman and CEO, Mark Gliebe.
Cemp has two production plants in Italy and one in France. It employs about 100 people and exports 60% of its output. The majority (70%) of its sales are to OEMs, and it also sells to end-users and engineering companies. Cemp’s revenues are currently worth around $35m.
Cemp was founded in 1954 and was among the first companies in Italy to manufacture flameproof motors. Since then, its product range has expanded to include flameproof motors with brakes, electric pumps for printing machines, and flameproof motors for Group IIC gases and for mining.
Cemp produces a wide range of motors for hazardous duties
In 2000, Cemp bought the French manufacturer of small flameproof aluminium motors, Atav. In November 2007, Cemp was itself acquired by the Indian group, ABG, which has interests in shipbuilding, cement and engineering.
