Energy efficiency of motor-driven systems
Published:  02 July, 2013

Michael Björkman, technical marketing director for the Finnish drives-maker Vacon, has produced a White Paper that examines the energy efficiency of motor-driven systems with particular reference to the new EU standard on the energy efficiency requirements of variable-speed-driven machines.

The 13-page white paper examines the new lots covered in the second round of the Ecodesign Directive (regulation 640/2009) which covers technologies such as inverter-duty motors, permanent magnet motors, soft-starts, pumps, compressors and uninterruptible power supplies. It looks at the implications of the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) and at defining the efficiencies of parts of a power drive system.
