WEG adds modular contactors to LV switchgear portfolio
Published:  11 June, 2013

At the recent Hannover Fair, the Brazilian motors and controls manufacturer WEG emphasised the breadth of its low-voltage switchgear portfolio, with several new arrivals including lines of modular contactors and motor protection circuit-breakers.

WEG's new 45mm-wide CWB contactors allow panel-builders to optimise cabinet space and simplify planning and installing. They cover AC and DC supplies up to 18.5kW, 400V. The mechanical interlocks for reversing and star-delta starters are designed so that the user does not need extra space or tools.

Surge suppressors can be integrated without increasing the depth of the devices. There are two built-in auxiliary contacts (one NO and one NC). Extra auxiliary contact blocks can be mounted at the front or side.

The CWB contactors can be used with WEG's MPW motor protection circuit breakers to operate as fuse-less direct, reversing or star-delta starters. The low power consumption of the contactor coils (6W DC) allows direct control from the digital outputs of a PLC, frequency inverter or soft starter.

At Hannover, WEG also introduced the MPW16 family of motor protection circuit-breakers including accessories that use a tool-less cage-clamp technology. Larger frame sizes can also be equipped with auxiliary contact blocks with the screw-less technology, which is especially useful in environments exposed to vibration.

The cage-clamp technology is also available for WEG’s compact CWC0 contactors in sizes up to 12A (5.5kW, 400V), covering a power range from 3–7.5kW. All of WEG’s three- and four-pole contactors and its CWCA contactor relays now offer cage-clamp terminals.
