Renamed drives-maker reveals its first products
Published:  28 December, 2012

Following its 2011 acquisition of the Swedish drives-maker Emotron for €58.7m, the company’s new owner, the Indian electrical group Crompton Greaves, has renamed the business CG Drives & Automation.

By combining Emotron`s technical expertise in Europe with the corporate organisation in India, CG Drives & Automation says it has been able to expand its offering rapidly. It has recently announced its first new products – ranges of AC drives and soft-starts

The IP20/21-protected Emotron FDU/VFX AC drives, available in ratings up to 132kW, are aimed at users of cabinet or wall-mounted drives and are based on Emotron’s IP54-rated FDU and VFX drives. A robust design, easy access to terminals and a high level of component integration, were key objectives in the development.

The new Emotron TSA soft-start (above) is the first in a new line of high-performance soft-starts from CG. It complements the company’s MSF line of heavy-duty, solid-state soft-starts and offers integrated by-pass contactors, soft-torque starting, intelligent load monitoring and smart stop functions. It has been designed to be the ideal motor controller for applications where variable speed is not needed.

The first versions of the soft-starts are for motors with rated currents up to 100A. Others up to 1,800A are planned.
