Siemens buys French motion software specialist, Kineo CAM
Published:  11 October, 2012

Siemens is buying Kineo CAM, the French supplier of computer-aided motion software, which Siemens already uses in its PLM (product lifecycle management) software products. The Kineo software optimises motion, collision avoidance and path planning. Through the acquisition, Siemens hopes to enhance its computer-aided motion capabilities and to expand its market share. The purchase price has not been revealed.

Kineo, based in Toulouse, has more than 200 customers worldwide. It will become part of Siemens’ PLM software business. For 12 years, Kineo has been developing software for optimising robotic movements, and path planning for the assembly and disassembly of parts.

"By acquiring Kineo CAM, we add another advanced technology to our PLM portfolio,” says Chuck Grindstaff, CEO and president of Siemens` PLM software business.

Kineo CAM’s software products are delivered as application software to end-users and as software libraries to CAD and CAM software vendors and OEMs of advanced robotic systems. The two companies plan to continue the current Kineo CAM product lines.
