UK geared parts specialist opens plant in India
Published:  04 September, 2012

Microprecision, the UK precision engineering business specialising in geared components, is opening a satellite manufacturing plant in Bangalore, India. Initially, the operation will develop and manufacture gear pump products, starting in October 2012. The products will be sold locally and globally.

Microprecision has also bought a 3-acre site elsewhere in Bangalore to expand its medium-to-high volume manufacturing operations. This site is due to hit full production capacity by mid-2014.

The company plans to continue producing short-run items and specials at its UK plant in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, while developing its status as an R&D centre of excellence. The Hemel plant will continue to develop prototypes, manufacture spares, legacy components and to service UK and European clients. It will also develop and optimise new part programmes to be put into production at the high-volume plant in India and, later, in a second site planned for China by 2015.

“We are by no means reducing our UK footprint,” says Microprecision’s MD and founder, Terry Grubb, “but simply defending the long-term success and viability of the business by taking advantage of being able to supply new markets and geographical areas where demand is booming.”
