Elsy is appointed CEO of manufacturing Catapult
Published:  04 September, 2012

Dick Elsy, previously CEO of the gearless drive developer Torotrak, has been appointed CEO of the UK’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult, with effect from 1 October. His main responsibility will be to ensure that the HVMC maximises its impact on the growth of manufacturing industry in the UK.

The HVMC combines seven centres of excellence around the UK, and bridges the gap between business, academia and other research organisations. Its aim is to help businesses to develop and commercialise advanced technologies emerging from British research. Its long-term goal is to boost significantly the contribution of manufacturing to the UK economy.

“To be asked to lead the HVMC is a great privilege,” says Elsy (above). “This ground-breaking initiative is now poised to play a key role in the drive to rebalance our economy.”

Elsy is the holder of a Silver Medal from the Royal Academy of Engineering for his contribution to British engineering. He is also a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a former director of Engineering UK. Before joining Torotrak in 2003, Elsy was product development director at Jaguar Cars.

Catapults form part of the UK Government’s growth strategy and are intended to transform the country’s innovation capability. The Catapult programme was announced in October 2010 and is being overseen by the Technology Strategy Board.
