Electric cylinders use up to 90% less energy than pneumatics
Published:  06 August, 2012

SKF has announced a range of “electric cylinders” which, it claims, “can significantly outstrip the efficiency of pneumatic cylinders to realise energy savings of 90%”. The modular CASM cylinders, available in various sizes and stroke lengths to suit a wide range of applications, are also said to cut design and programming costs.

The cylinders (above) are designed to provide high-speed, heavy lifting or precision motion, while producing less contamination and noise than pneumatic cylinders.

The cylinders’ efficiency is enhanced by a sealing system that provides protection to IP54S, helping them to maintain performance even under aggressive conditions. The low-backlash design enables positioning precision down to ±0.01mm.

The cylinders can be supplied either complete with a motor, or ready for customers to integrate with existing equipment, using an adapter to accommodate a wide variety of motors.
