Hazardous area motors make a UK debut
Published:  08 May, 2012

Siemens’ Loher family of hazardous area motors will be available in the UK first time, following an agreement between Siemens Industry Automation & Drive Technologies (IA&DT) and Sulzer Dowding & Mills.

The flameproof IE2 motors will be stocked in two-pole versions up to 18.5kW and four-pole up to 75kW. The motors are painted internally and externally to protect them against corrosion and to ensure long operating lives in challenging environments.

“Our partnership with Sulzer Dowding & Mills is essential in allowing us to offer our customers in the oil, gas and chemical industries an extensive range of Loher motors in the UK,” says IA&DT divisional director, Andrew Peters. “The hazardous environments of these sectors require the most efficient motors to meet specific needs. As such, it’s important that not only the motors, but the service support offered, is bespoke for the particular requirements of these industries – which is why this partnership is so important.”

From its Aberdeen site, Sulzer Dowding & Mills supplies, overhauls, repairs and stores high- and low-voltage motors. It also offers installation, rewind, certification and condition-based monitoring services, as well as designing and building motor control centres using Siemens drives and controls.
