Timken, Altra and Regal ‘eyeing Emerson business’

Several potential purchasers, including Regal Beloit, Timken and Altra Industrial Motion, have shown an interest in acquiring Emerson Electric’s mechanical power transmission business, according to a report from the Reuters news agency. Citing “people familiar with the matter”, the report says that private equity firms including Warburg Pincus and Onex are also interested in the business, which could be sold for $1.2–1.6bn.

Siemens buys Camstar to expand its MES portfolio

Siemens is buying the US MES (manufacturing execution systems) specialist Camstar Systems, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will enhance Siemens’ industrial digitalisation strategy and broaden its portfolio of product development and automation systems for the electronics, semiconductor and medical device industries.

It says that the acquisition will strengthen the presence of its software division in the power and energy market. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Global shipments of motion control products grew by 6.2% in the first half of 2014 to reach around $1.5bn, according to new figures released by the Motion Control Association (MCA).

Danfoss launches €1bn bid for Finnish drives-maker Vacon

UPDATED: Danfoss has launched a bid to buy the Finnish drives-maker Vacon in a cash deal offering €34 for each Vacon share and valuing the business at €1,038m. Danfoss says that the bid is in line with its strategic focus on creating profitable growth and that Vacon is a good match to achieve this ambition. Both Danfoss Power Electronics and Vacon are significant players in the AC drives business, it adds, and together they would gain an even stronger market position.
