£4,000 up for grabs in plastic bearings contest

The plastic bearings specialist igus is offering £4,000 in prizes in a competition intended to promote new ways of using plastic plain bearings and to generate a wider awareness of their benefits. The Manus competition - first held in 2004 - will reward designers who use these bearings in innovative or demanding applications.

There will be three cash prizes, of £2,500, £1,000 and £500, as well as trophies and certificates.

Entrants must submit a short description outlining how they are using plastic bearings, illustrated with pictures or technical drawings. They should also detail the benefits, such as cost savings or technical improvements, that they have achieved by using the plastic bearings. The bearings must be all-plastic or made of a plastic compound. Plastic-coated bearings are not eligible.

Details and entry forms are available via www.manus-igus.co.uk or by phoning Nikki Groom on 01604 677240. Entries close on August 31, 2006.
