Hydraulic controller handles motors as well

German hydraulic controls specialist Pees, has developed a digital controller suitable not only for hydraulic systems, but also for electromechanical motion systems of up to four axes.

The software in the AN310 controller caters for the control idiosyncrasies of hydraulic drives such as temperature dependence and the compressibility of the fluids. Pees claims that the drive can cope with difficulties such as low resonant frequencies and heavy loads attached to long cylinders.

But as well as providing signals for servo, control or proportional valves, the controller can handle electric motors and actuators. It can control up to four drives synchronously. Pees says the controller is particularly suitable for applications where several axes need to be driven in parallel, or in fixed or adjustable speed relations.

The controller handles up to 16 analogue inputs and eight analogue outputs and 48 digital I/O channels. There are two CANbus interfaces and two RS-232 ports. A 32-bit RISC processor with a maths coprocessor provides a claimed cycle time of 250µs per axis.
