• Schneider Electric has won a contract worth more than £2m to supply drives to United Utilities and to conduct harmonic surveys for the company over a two-year period. The contract, covering drives up to 500kW, follows an earlier three-year contract, and carries a two year-extension, with a further one-year option.

Telcon, the Crawley-based specialist in magnetic components such as Hall Effect sensors and AC current transformers, is celebrating its 150th anniversary. In the 1800s, Telcon laid the first trans-Atlantic cable using Brunel`s Great Eastern ship, and during the 20th century it invented Mumetal and other nickel-based alloys.
