Washable terminal eliminates cabinets

Festo has collaborated with Tetrapak, the world`s largest manufacturer of liquid-filling machinery, to develop a pneumatic valve terminal block that can be mounted directly on a machine, doing away with the need for a control cabinet.

The CDVI (clean design valve island) terminal is intended for use in hygiene-sensitive environments such as the food and packaging industries, and can be washed down with acid or alkali cleaning agents. The enclosure is free of small radii, sharp edges and crevices in which dirt could accumulate.

Mounting the terminal on a machine eases access and minimises the distance between the valve and the actuator, thus improving actuator response.

There are eight valves in the basic terminal and more can be added using two-valve expansion modules. Various configurations are available, including 5/2, 5/3 and 2 x 3/2 versions, capable of handling flow rates up to 650 l/min.

The CDVI will make its public UK debut at the PPMA exhibition in London from 25-27 September.
