DeviceNet-on-a-chip simplifies bus designs

A DeviceNet controller on a single chip will make its debut at this month`s SPS/IPC/Drives show in Nuremberg. The AnyBus-IC, developed by the Swedish company HMS Industrial Networks, incorporates a microprocessor with a CAN controller, memory, and analogue components such as voltage regulators, protection circuitry and bus transceivers. The only extra component needed to create a complete DeviceNet interface is a connector.

HMS says that the tiny device (measuring 42mm by 23mm by 14mm) will simplify the development of DeviceNet interfaces and minimise the space needed.

HMS has already developed a similar chip for Profibus DP networks and plans to launch an Ethernet TCP/IP version early next year. The various versions are physically interchangeable, allowing users to convert their applications easily from supporting one bus system to another.
