Drives gain `first` Type 2 certification

Schneider Electric claims that its Telemecanique Altivar 58 variable speed drives are the first VSDs to be certified independently as providing Type 2 protection co-ordination. It says that, as a result, users of the VSDs can return them to service immediately after a fault, without needing calibration.

The Type 2 co-ordination certificate applies to all drives in the Altivar 58 range when they are used in approved combinations with Telemecanique contactors and motor protection circuit breakers, or contactors and fuses. The enclosed Altivar 58e version of the drives offer Type 2 co-ordination out of the box.

The certified drives cover ratings up to 55kW for heavy-duty applications, and 75kW for lighter duties. They are available in either sensorless flux vector or full flux vector versions.
