Controller monitors motor energy and power factor

A new motor controller from Siemens can measure and record motor currents and voltages, allowing a motor`s energy consumption and power factor to be analysed and monitored accurately. The Simocode Pro V "intelligent" motor control and protection system can incorporate digital and analogue inputs, with special inputs for monitoring temperature and low-level earth faults.

There is also a simpler Simocode Pro C version for managing direct-on-line and DOL reversing starters where costs need to be kept low.

Both versions use the same current transformers with ratings from 0.3-630A, and can be connected to higher-level automation systems via Profibus. They can operate autonomously to provide full motor control and protection if there are communications or automation system faults. A panel-mounting operator panel with four programmable pushbuttons and ten LEDs can be used with either device.
