Explosion-proof solenoid saves space and money

Parker Hannifin has developed and patented a compact explosion-proof solenoid technology that can replace conventional bulky EExd and EExm coils, at a lower cost.

The ignition volume in the connection box has been reduced to less than 10 cubic centimetres so that, even if a spark occurs, an explosion is much less likely. If an explosion does occur, it will generate low pressure and will extinguish immediately, according to Parker.

Safety is increased by the use of integrated thermal and current fuses and suppression varistors. These components also remove the need for expensive explosion-proof cable entries.

The new low-current coil design meets ATEX EEx dm IIC T4, T5 and T6 protection criteria. The polyamide plastic housing provides protection to IP67.
