Integrated servo drive is `50% smaller`

Rexroth has developed an integrated servo motor and drive which, is claims, needs half the space of a traditional separate motor and drive combinations, and is 30% smaller than other integrated motors. Unlike rival systems which attach the controls to the end of the motor, the IndraDrive Mi`s controls are mounted on top of the motor and use its case for cooling.

As well as saving space, the integrated drive is said to cut wiring costs by using a single cable to carry the power supply, and control signals via Sercos. Several of the drives can be linked in series, cutting wiring costs further, without needing to modify the controls.
