Simple drives can be programmed in the box

ABB has launched a new range of its "component drives" - simple, low-cost controllers aimed at machine-builders, and at applications such as pumps, fans, conveyors and materials-handling equipment. The ACS150 range, spanning ratings from 0.37-4kW, can also replace standard components such as contactors and soft-starters in some applications.

The easy-to-install drives use ABB`s FlashDrop technology which downloads parameters to a drive from a handheld device. The parameters can be transferred without powering up the drive or even removing it from its packaging. This allows OEMs to streamline their commissioning processes, and distributors to configure the drives before despatch.

The drives in the family vary only in width, allowing fixing holes to stay on the same level, and cable tunnels to be mounted horizontally. The drives can also be mounted side-by-side on DIN rails, or with one side facing the back of a cabinet. A safety function protects the drive if power is connected incorrectly to the motor terminals.

The IP20-protected drives are available in single-phase (200V) versions up to 2.2kW, and three-phase (400V) versions to 4kW. They have one analogue and five digital inputs (one of which can be configured for pulse trains) and a relay output. The motor speed can be set using a front-panel potentiometer.
