Bonfiglioli and Amir target 10% of UK market

Italian gearmotor maker Bonfiglioli Riduttori has reached an agreement with Amir Power Transmission (APT) aimed at capturing 10% of the UK geared market within three years. Under the deal, APT will distribute the whole Bonfiglioli range, focusing on distributors, end-users and smaller OEMs, while Bonfiglioli itself will concentrate on larger OEMs.

Until now, the two companies have split the Bonfiglioli range by product type, with APT handling industrial gearboxes and the Bonfiglioli UK (BUK) operation in Warrington handling planetary gearboxes. The new split allows BUK to focus its efforts on the strategically important large OEM market which has previously been dominated by rival suppliers.

Bonfiglioli already has a 28% share of its Italian home market and 5-12% of other European markets. Vanni Roncagli, the company`s European sales manager, says he "can see no reason" why the company should not capture a similar slice of the UK market. "We understand the UK market better today and we recognise that, for the large OEM customer, there is a gap in the market for high quality, yet affordable geared motors," he says. "We are going to give that choice."
