Siemens Moore aims for process control top three

The combined operations of Siemens and Moore Products will be one off the world`s top three process automation suppliers within two years predicts Mike Eyre, managing director of the newly formed Siemens Moore Process Automation business.

The creation of this business, with a UK staff of more than 500, follows Siemens` $170m acquisition of Moore earlier this year as part of its plan to become a dominant force in process automation.

The combined business will sell Moore`s Apacs systems as well as Siemens` Simatic PCS7 technology. Graham Philips, managing director of Siemens Automation and Drives in the UK, says there is "very little overlap between the market positioning of the two organisations".

Moore is strong in complex batch operation and integrated safety and control, while Siemens has focused on the food and chemicals markets. Of the 140 projects that the two companies were involved in before the takeover, there were only six where conflicts were identified and these were "resolved rapidly", according to Eyre.

He says he is "extremely comfortable" about the way the two organisations will fit together and reveals that Moore had been planning to approach Siemens about an alliance before the takeover.
