Moeller expands its switch production plant

Moeller Electric is boosting the manufacturing floorspace at its Worksop switch-making plant by more than a third, to increase the capacity of the plant which already produces 1.5 million switches a year.

The company is spending around £1m a year on new equipment for the site. The plant has grown fivefold since 1975, when Moeller decided to transfer production of standard switches from Germany to the purpose-built UK factory.

The plant now employees 150 people producing three-phase switch disconnectors and cam switches rated at 20-100A, and up to 630V. Half of the output goes to Germany and just 20% is sold in the UK.
