Danfoss-Bauer union spawns a new business

Danfoss has created a new UK operation, Danfoss Motion Controls, which brings together its variable speed drives and the geared motor technology it acquired when it bought the German company, Bauer. The business will be based at the former Bauer factory in Winsford, Cheshire.

Danfoss has reorganised Bauer`s geared motor factories at Esslingen and Munich in Germany and, as a result, there have been some redundancies in the gearbox manufacturing operation in Winsford. The site will now focus on offering a fast assembly and tailoring service.

Malcolm Staff, the sales and marketing director for Danfoss Motion Controls, says that there is "a great deal of synergy" between the drives and geared motors businesses. He points out that 37% of the geared motors used in Europe are driven at variable speed and says that the combined business is "in a strong position for the future, particularly in the rapidly growing field of integrated variable speed motors and geared motors".

Danfoss has recently moved its UK headquarters to purpose-built premises in Denham, Buckinghamshire, where the motion controls business will have its southern sales office.
